Labiaplasty

Many women wish to change the size and shape of their labia. Improving the size or shape of the labia can give you more confidence with the desired appearance. Additionally, overly large or thick labia can make women feel like they cannot participate in certain sports or physical activities or wear certain clothing. There may also be medical reasons why women wish to undergo labial surgery.

Labiaplasty (also known as labia reduction or labial reduction) is a procedure designed to modify the inner and/or outer labia. Those seeking this type of cosmetic genital surgery aim to correct congenital conditions or improve physical discomfort due to oversized labia. Some women also choose this procedure for aesthetic reasons.

Labial reduction surgery primarily focuses on the patient’s desire and the surgeon’s recommendation. The procedure involves reducing the size of the inner labia, which are the inner genital lips. To achieve this, the surgeon removes unwanted labial tissue to achieve the desired shape.

The surgeon can also remove a wedge-shaped section of the labia, leaving the front intact and removing tissue from the back. Therefore, the color of the labia will remain unchanged and will be noticeable after surgery.

To reduce bleeding, we may use a laser instead of a scalpel. This alternative option can be discussed further with the surgeon. You may need to stay overnight in the clinic or hospital. After surgery, you’ll need a week off to rest. Maintaining a high standard of hygiene is also recommended during the recovery process. The surgery time is approximately 1 hour or less under local anesthesia.

Result and Follow-Up
Postoperative discomfort is easily managed with oral pain medication. Absorbable stitches dissolve within seven to 10 days. Most patients can return to normal activity within two to five days and resume sexual activity within a few weeks.
