Penis Lengthening

Penis lengthening surgery will typically only increase the length of a flaccid penis, not an erect one.

Between one-third and half of the penis is housed within the body. It is relatively easy to increase the length of a flaccid penis by cutting the suspensory ligament, which keeps the penis close to the pubic bone and supports it during an erection. By using penis weights, this ligament eventually heals in an extended state, with more of the penis hanging outside the body than before. Another method to increase penis length is through liposuction (fat removal) in the pubic area, which simply exposes more of the penis. Unlike cutting the suspensory ligament, pubic area liposuction can give the impression of a longer erect penis without increasing the penis structure through surgery.

Most men want their penises to be larger. This is not a good reason for penis enlargement surgery. However, for some, penis size is a concern and leads to low self-esteem, anxiety, or depression. For these men, increasing the circumference or flaccid length of the penis may be worth the risks.

Penises come in different sizes and shapes. Rarely is one so small that it poses an insurmountable issue with either urination or sexual activity.

If you are significantly distressed by the size or shape of your penis, it may be worthwhile to discuss it with your doctor. If you have researched the risks and have realistic expectations about surgical outcomes, then you may be a good candidate for this procedure.

Penis enlargement surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. You can go home within a few hours after surgery, once you recover from the effects of anesthesia. Penis lengthening and thickening can be performed under local or general anesthesia. You should discuss these options with your surgeon. The two procedures can be performed together or separately.

Pain after surgery is expected but varies from person to person. Your surgeon will prescribe medications to help with the pain.
